What is it?

There has been a trend in photography studios to start offeringphotography classes to the moms that are also their clients.  This is a great way to generate revenue and build a better relationship with your clients. Some of my best clients have also taken my class.  After taking a beginning photography class many moms are left wanting more and that is where the Photographer's Kick Start: Advanced Training materials come in.  This digital product provides you with a solid foundation to build on your  training program to offer an advanced  photography classes to moms in your market.  The materials can be customized to meet the needs of your clients and to coordinate with your branding.  If you've ever stared at a blank computer screen trying to write something from scratch, you'll know that it is easier to edit something that already exists.  These materials have been developed based on feedback from students and other photographers who want to offer advanced materials in addition to the beginner's class.

What's included?

  • Powerpoint Presentation.  The editable Powerpoint presentation provides you with slides that you can use when you are teaching the class to moms.  This advanced class is much more technical than the beginner's class.  Also includes the Powerpoint Viewer (read only) version of the presentation for those that do not have Powerpoint. Keynote can open Powerpoint if you are on a Mac.
  • Speaker's Notes.  PDF document showing slides with speaker notes and suggestions for edits.  This will help you know what to talk about during each slide.  This is designed to be helpful to you as the speaker and is not a handout for the students.
  • Student Handout. PDF document showing slides ready for printing to hand out to students.  Students enjoy having something to refer to and write on.
  • PSD Files.  Layered PSD files for the background of the presentation used in the presentation to edit to match your branding.  You will need either Powerpoint or Keynote to edit the presentation materials.
  • Marketing and Pricing Guide.  A marketing and pricing guide to give you guidance in setting up your own training program.  Provides different scenarios with suggested marketing and pricing.

Class Materials

The materials in the Photographer's Kick Start: Advanced Training module are designed to teach a 3 hour advanced photography class to moms.  When you are teaching the class you will draw on you own experiences photographing your family as well as the confidence of being a professional photographer to be able to tackle the materials.   I encourage you to personalize the training materials with photos of your own family and your own stories on how you captured the photos to help engage the moms taking the class.  Because moms are so busy and it is so hard for them to get away, I have found that the 3 hour class is ideal for today's moms busy schedules but you can also extend the length of the class by having some hands on time with the moms.  As the trainer, you should have a comfortable understanding with camera functionality to be able to answer off-topic questions as they come up during the class.

Class Outline:

  • Review of the Elements of Exposure
  • Creative Shooting Modes
    • Program Mode
    • Tv/Shutter Priority
    • Av/Aperture Priority
    • Manual Mode
  • Composition
  • Depth of Field
  • Focus Methods
  • Changing Focus Points
  • White Balance
  • Camera Menu

Why Buy?

Before I was a photographer, I trained in other subjects such as computer programming and end-user training for new software.  So I understood what went into creating class materials.  I used that knowledge to create my beginner's photography class over 3 years ago and have been teaching it to moms in the Houston area ever since.  Over time I provided follow up training to moms looking to take more control over their photos and that is how the advanced class was born.  The materials have been updated over the years as I've gotten feedback from the moms and other photographers.   I had a lot of other photographers asking me if I would share my materials so I went back and wrote all the stuff down that was in my head to create this package.  If you have considered teaching photography classes to moms (and most pros are asked all the time by their customers about where to take a beginner's class), then these materials will give you a KICK START in getting your training program set up.  In a survey sent to the purchasers of these materials during the pre-release, the overwhelming response was that these materials were a great time saver.

About Us

  • Jessica Grieves
I started my portrait photography business, Bubblegum Tree Photography, in August 2006 in Houston TX. My background is in web development, project management, and technical training so those aspects of my photography business are especially interesting to me. I started teaching photography classes to moms in 2008 after being asked time and again by my customers how to use their cameras. I've kept an online journal about my experiences building my photography business at Hey Girl, Nice Shot. I'm the photography writer for Houston Mama, and I've written numerous guest posts and spoken at photographer's workshops to share some of the things I've learned.
